Sankirtan
group mantra chanting
Kirtan songs, Hindu devotional songs, or Sankirtan, are practised in groups, with a choral response given to the person leading the song. Musical instruments and percussion punctuate and accompany our session. It is one of the practices of bhakti yoga, a moment where we can let go of all our daily worries, letting ourselves be carried away by the rhythm, sound and energy of the sacred. You don't need to know how to sing or know Hindu tradition, everyone is welcome. Bhakti yoga sublimates human emotions, leading us to experience feelings of a very particular taste (we call this rasa); they bring fullness, abandonment, joy and freedom.
Uma Gowri Dasi
Passionate about India since adolescence, around ten long spiritual stays in this country behind me, I follow the Basel path of Bengal: ancestral tradition of mystical bards which emphasizes the bodily experience, the practice of yoga, asanas, dance, singing and poetry. She gives Sivananda style yoga classes in Gard and online.
A Baul Gaan & Sankirtan event can be held by invitation.

Bhakti yoga is one of the paths of self-transformation that uses human emotions to transcend them and bring the practitioner to an experience of higher spiritual feelings.
We all live in a state where we feel as separate individuals. Spiritual music, like dance, or meditation, can dissolve the boundaries we create with our minds; it allows us to feel the union, the cohesion with the world, which is possible when the expression of our little self, of the ego, is momentarily erased.
